Traffic signal preemption at rail-highway crossing intersections plays a critical role in enhancing safety, improving traffic flow, and reducing the risk of vehicle-train collisions. This workshop will highlight FDOT’s collaborative efforts with rail partners to assess and implement preemption strategies. Topics will include evaluating the need for preemption at unsignalized intersections, conducting inspections and assessments at signalized crossings, and coordinating joint inspections with all stakeholders. Attendees will gain insights into best practices, regulatory considerations, and real-world case studies to enhance rail corridor safety for roadway users and trains.
