High-speed interstate work zones can lead to severe crashes due to complex traffic patterns and limited reaction times. In 2022, FDOT District Seven adopted a policy reducing speeds from 70 mph to 60 mph within interstate construction zones, substantially decreasing crash severity with minimal impacts on roadway performance. This session will discuss lessons learned since implementation, including speed compliance observations using MVDS data, the effectiveness of enhanced enforcement efforts, and best practices for establishing enforceable, safe work zone speeds.
