This session provides an introductory overview of lighting design concepts. This content is primarily intended for roadway designers seeking a brief review of lighting design needs as shown in the FDOT Design Manual (FDM), Standard Plans, and Standard Specifications. This presentation begins by explaining the light pole placement options as defined by the Standard Plans 715 series. We’ll then discuss some important design considerations with a quick walkthrough of FDM 231 for Lighting, including the goals of photometric design. Finally, we’ll review the circuit design concept with a step-by-step example for light poles.
