Truck Parking Planning Strategies
6/19/2025 - 4:25pm-5:20pm
Truck parking shortages pose serious safety and operational challenges nationwide. To address this, Florida DOT District Four has launched three key initiatives to improve truck parking access. The Truck Parking Engineering Analysis and Considerations Study builds on FDOT’s 2020 statewide study by evaluating 500 potential sites and prioritizing 10 for which detailed site concepts, cost estimates, and benefit analyses will be developed. The Truck Parking Supply and Demand Analysis Study updates the 2017 District Four study, revising facility inventories and demand projections based on current trends and data. The Truck Parking Assessment Project reviewed existing facilities such as tandem lots and rest areas to evaluate their potential for additional truck parking through upgrades or redesigns. District Four is actively exploring innovative ways to expand truck parking capacity. Together, these efforts support compliance with federal Hours-of-Service regulations and advance national goals under Jason’s Law by enhancing both short- and long-term parking availability.
