Two-Stage Pedestrian Crossing Innovation Evaluation
6/19/2025 - 3:20pm-4:15pm
This presentation will provide a case study of the project, discussing lessons learned from planning, design, and project delivery, and discuss the results of a before/after evaluation. The FDM now recommends considering two-stage pedestrian crossings at six-lane roadways or where crossing distances exceed 80 feet, but this application is relatively new in the Tampa Bay region, and many members of the traveling public are unfamiliar with the application. To better understand how pedestrians and drivers interact with the new two-stage crossing, FDOT D7 partnered with researchers at the USF Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR), who collected and analyzed video data to determine pedestrian compliance and driver yield rates.
